Breaking Free from Comparison

Drawing from John 21:18-22, this sermon confronts the destructive habit of comparing ourselves to others in our spiritual walk. When Jesus tells Peter about the death he will die to glorify God, Peter immediately looks over his shoulder and asks about John's fate. Jesus essentially responds that what happens to John is none of Peter's concern -- Peter's only responsibility is to follow Jesus. The sermon challenges believers to stop managing other people's spiritual journeys and instead focus on their own calling, recognizing that comparison robs us of contentment and causes us to miss what God is doing in our own lives. The gospel is presented as being for everyone without exception, and believers are called to love God and love people rather than judge and compare.
