Orthodoxy vs Orthopraxy

That tension is at the heart of this message, and it is one that every one of us navigates daily whether we realize it or not. Drawing from the story of a woman who broke open an alabaster jar of costly perfume and poured it over Jesus, we are invited to examine two powerful concepts: orthodoxy, our right belief, and orthopraxy, our right action. The woman in Mark 14 did not simply recognize Jesus from across the room and nod in his direction. She responded to who he truly was with everything she had. The crowd called it wasteful. Jesus called it worship. That contrast cuts right to the core of our faith journey. How often do we quietly adjust what we believe in order to excuse how we are already living? This message challenges us to stop protecting the jar and start pouring the oil, to let our beliefs lead our actions rather than letting our actions rewrite our beliefs. The fragrance only fills the room when the jar is broken. That is a picture of what it looks like when we stop holding back and fully surrender to what God has called us to do and to be.
